From Open Democracy: “Gone are the days when China just sent students to English-speaking countries in the West. China now ranks fourth among the most popular ‘receiving’ countries in the world, with students from South Korea, Thailand, Pakistan and India dominating the intake … In 2010, China introduced a programme that aimed to attract and enrol 500,000 international students a year by 2020. Three years later, as a component of its ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) global trade strategy, China made further moves to embed international students into its agenda.”
