UVA Darden

Turning audience insights into UVA Darden’s strategic advantage

As one of the nation’s top public graduate business schools, UVA Darden punches above its weight compared with private institutions in the M7. Known for its rigorous academic program, the school prides itself on pushing students to explore every angle.

Simply put, Darden cannot outspend private business schools. Yet despite having a leaner marketing budget, it has built an enviable brand and robust program offering. Competing in display advertising, however, proved challenging against institutions with significantly larger budgets. Recognizing that its longtime demand-side platform (DSP) was underperforming, Kiosk helped Darden make a change.

Strategy & Execution

Enter Quantcast, a performance DSP that allows Darden to run display ads where its competitors can’t, while providing relevant, real-time data on website traffic. By better understanding who is visiting its website and why, Darden can continually improve its ad targeting and stay in lockstep with new audiences.

Results

Audience insights make every ad dollar count.

Darden approached digital advertising the way it approaches education: Not Business School as Usual. By rethinking its platform and leveraging audience insights, it reached the right prospects at the right time without overspending.
